Sid Barnes was born in London and grew up during the Second World War. After
moving to Southern California in the 1960s, he opened an engineering company in
Santa Ana, California. By 1975, Sid had a successful business, three cars, and a
house near the beach. He had money, position and power.
“I had all that an immigrant could want, yet inside I had no peace!"
There were still problems: there was the problem of trying to make his money
grow! Sid started to question what life was all about. He was empty and had no
peace inside. There had to be more to life than working seven days a week.
It happened on December 7, 1976 in my office; just the Holy Spirit and me.
"I had questions to which I only found answers in the Bible! As I started to read,
I saw how God looked at me, and I was shocked. I had to do something
about it. During the process, I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ, and found
new life indeed."
In 1979 the Lord called Sid to leave his wealth behind and follow Him full time.
Sid wanted to, but found that he couldn’t let go. He needed the Lord’s help. With
church training and God's help, he finally let go.
Sid Barnes first went to Lagos, Nigeria in 1989 to help an African Christian plant
Calvary Chapels. By 1995, he had started a ministry in Ghana with a local man. In
2002, the Lord directed him to start a new ministry in Ghana: Crossroads Christian
Mission, Inc. He began with a church and this year started a vocational school.
"We want to look at getting involved in evangelism in the villages, to spread the
gospel in Ghana and West Africa, and to address the needs of the young and
orphans."
